Frequently Asked Questions

The Triple L Ranch rides operate under the following policies:

  • Riding Helmets required (extra waiver for non helmets available).

  • Long pants, closed toe shoes are required.

  • Cameras & sunglasses sunscreen applied 30 min prior to ride strongly advised.

  • Our trails are rugged and all riders should be in good physical condition.

  • Weight limit is 210 lbs. Riders are weighed at check in, there are no exceptions.

  • For the utmost safety of the rider and the horse, we reserve the right to refuse service to any rider we determine to be in poor physical condition, who weighs over 210 lbs or exceeds a BMI of 28. Our maximum rider weight is 210 lbs, this for balance and agility;  however even those who weigh less than 210 lbs may not be able to ride if they do not fit an appropriate BMI.  A horse is only ever meant to carry 20% of its body weight. Therefore a saddled 1100 lb horse should never be asked to carry more than 210 lbs. We use light weight saddles for comfort and riding pleasure. As a note any rider who is not in good physical condition or balanced will likely misuse reins and/or saddle for balance compromising safety.

  • Minimum age is 8+ years old

  • Parties of six are subject to a minimum gratuity of 10%

Will I receive instructions on how to interact with my horse?

Yes. Before the start of the tour, your instructor will go over everything you need to know. If you’d like to prep ahead of time, please watch our ‘Horseback 101’ video with some helpful tips:

What is your cancellation policy?

Because of our private tour and limited space & availability, we ride rain or shine and reserve the right to decide on the conditions as we keep your safety first at all times. We offer no refunds unless there is a total rain out; however, you may sell your ride or transfer to a new date if the dates are available, with a 25% re-booking fee for new dates.

COVID UPDATES:

Triple L Ranch Private Custom Horseback Tours (TLR LLC) looks forward to your riding with us while you are staying on Maui.  As per your reservation contract, your tour is non-refundable except for the reasons specified in the contract.  If there are actual travel bans or government mandated quarantines in place for tourists coming to Maui during your scheduled stay, you will be given a 100% credit towards a future ride.  If you have concerns about testing positive for the virus or contracting any illness that would prevent you from travel, we recommend travel insurance. Credit or refunds will not be given for cancellations due to a positive test result but insurance may cover it. Regardless of which travel insurance you purchase, it is important to read through the description of coverage carefully to ensure it is suitable for you. Important to note: most insurance does not cover fear of travel or politicians’ suggestions not to travel.

If you have further questions, feel free to reach out to us. We look forward to your stay on Maui and riding with us and wish you safe travels and much Aloha!

How far are you from most resort areas?
Good question since a lot our clients come from the resort areas! We are approximately one hour to one hour and fifteen minutes from Lahaina or Wailea. The good thing is there are many fabulous stops to make coming or going. Sunrise or sunset at Haleakala. Tedeshi Winery is a great after tour stop just 5 min away. Of course our famous Bully’s Burgers www.bullysburgersmauistore.com. There are the Lavender Farms, Botanical Gardens, Oceans Distillery, Surfing Goat Dairy (Awesome cheese). The little cowboy town of Makawao. If you want to drive the backside to Hana (this is our choice and you miss all the traffic) we make a great morning ride stop before heading to Hana! If you come back form Hana this way a perfect sunset ride stop!

How long have you been in business?
The ranch began in 1950. The cattle tours began in 2011 as a way to help support the ranch as increasing taxes arise. Every day our little slice of heaven is being infringed upon by development staying open as a ranch means we have to diversify to keep going. By riding with us you help keep the local farming and agricultural industry on Maui going! We really appreciate you!

Do you let people run the horses?
We are an active Bar Angus cattle ranch so any running or galloping of the horses to them this means go get the cattle, to err on the side of safety, we only allow trotting depending on size of group and experience levels, safety comes first. And well, we like to take our time out here, however if you are avid experinced rider we may allow cantering and trotting per your cowboys discretion.
